Anthurium 'Ace of Spades x (Magnificum x)' is a striking hybrid that combines the dramatic, dark foliage of the 'Ace of Spades' with the robust growth and frilly margin of Anthurium magnificum. This plant is known for its large, velvety, heart-shaped leaves that often feature deep green or nearly black tones, accented by lighter veining that gives the leaves a textured, almost metallic look. As it matures, the leaves grow larger and more pronounced, making it a standout in any indoor space. Its combination of bold aesthetics and relatively manageable size makes it popular among collectors of aroid plants.

This hybrid thrives in high humidity and indirect light, similar to its parent species, and requires attentive care to maintain its stunning foliage. It can be grown easily but its needs for warmth, humidity, and well-draining soil must be met for optimal growth.

Native to
This hybrid is a product of crossbreeding within the genus Anthurium, combining traits from the dark-leaved 'Ace of Spades' and the large, veined magnificum. While the hybrid itself does not occur in the wild, its parent species are native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, particularly Colombia and Ecuador. These plants naturally grow as epiphytes or terrestrials in the humid understory of rainforests.

Water
Anthurium 'Ace of Spades x (Magnificum x)' requires consistently moist but well-draining soil. Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry to the touch, being careful not to let the plant sit in waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot. A well-draining, chunky aroid mix, including orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coir, is ideal for retaining moisture without suffocating the roots. Reduce watering slightly in cooler months.

Light
This hybrid prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can cause the leaves to burn, while low light can slow down growth and dull the rich colours of the foliage. A spot near a north- or east-facing window or in a room with filtered light is ideal. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can damage the plant’s delicate velvety leaves.

Humidity
High humidity is crucial for Anthurium 'Ace of Spades x (Magnificum x)' to thrive, with ideal levels above 60%. If humidity drops too low, the leaves may develop brown, crispy edges or fail to reach their full size. Use a humidifier or place the plant on a humidity tray to maintain sufficient moisture in the air. This hybrid can also be grown in terrariums or enclosed environments if space allows.

Temperature
This plant prefers warm, stable indoor temperatures, ideally between 18°C and 26°C. Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 15°C, as it is sensitive to cold and may suffer damage. Keep the plant away from draughts and cold windows, especially during winter, to prevent shock. A consistently warm and humid environment will ensure the plant grows healthily and displays its best foliage.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Fun read
Format: Kindle
I'm not really into mafia books but I love Roxy Collin's other series so I decided to give it a try. It had the same great romance, spice, swoon-worthy characters and exciting plot that are her signature. Arben was my favorite, although it was a bit sudden how quickly he changed from ignoring her to wanting to be pack. There were almost too many twists/layers of lies to keep track of but I'm looking forward to reading the other books. The only thing that detracted from the story for me was the need for a bit more proofreading. It was mentioned that Kelly is a female and male at different points, leading me to think she changed her mind at some point about the character's gender but didn't go back and edit it to align in all places. Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.
